Gulacha Ganpati, a famous black-and white film released in 1953, is an emotional drama starring the late Purushottam Lakshman Deshpande, a renowned Marathi writer, playwright, and actor known as Pu La.
The film is considered one of Pu La's best works, and it is notable for Pu La's multiple roles in it, including writer, director, lead actor, and music composer. Pu La's handwritten script for the film has been included to the National Film Archive of India's collection in New Delhi (NFAI).
Dilip Shripad Rajguru, the younger brother of the film’s producer, Vinayak Rajguru, recently visited NFAI with his sister-in-law (Vinayak’s wife), Dr Sarojini Rajguru, to give over this script.
“We weren't sure if we and future generations would be able to preserve this writing forever, even knowing how valuable it is. As a result, we chose to pass it on to the correct hands, who will care for it properly,” says Dilip Rajguru. He said that Pu La wrote the script in 1951 and that it is at least 90 pages long. “Despite the fact that it is a 65-year-old document, it is in good shape,” he continues.
