The first Indian movie is "Raja Harishchandra," which is a silent film released in 1913. It was directed and produced by Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, popularly known as Dadasaheb Phalke, and is considered the first full-length Indian feature film. The film was a retelling of the legend of Raja Harishchandra, a legendary king known for his truthfulness, and starred Dattatraya Damodar Dabke as the lead actor. The film was shot in Mumbai and released at the Coronation Cinematograph in Mumbai on May 3, 1913. The success of "Raja Harishchandra" paved the way for the growth of the Indian film industry and inspired many other filmmakers to make movies in India.
